Since
1995, I have produced a series of temporary audio pieces at sites
including the Visitor’s Center to a 700-year-old Irish Castle;
a contemporary architect’s office in Boston; and a 1920’s
art-deco cinema in Glasgow, Scotland. The
works are based around interviews with architects and play with the
formats and conventions of radio documentary.
Typically, visitors to the
space come across a small transistor radio that has the appearance of
having been left behind by someone working within the building. Listening
to the sounds, however, it becomes clear that the documentary is addressing the
building in which the listener is standing.
