This piece was made for a publication that is being produced to accompany the ‘Local Transit’ exhibition that took place at Artists Space, New York and Artspace, Auckland.
The text from the 'Office Notes' section of an old Architectural Record magazine is transposed word-for-word to the artists’ book. The original column, which appeared each month in the magazine between the 1950’s and 1980’s, was an industry-insiders guide to appointments, mergers, and aquisitions in the US architecture and planning industries, presented in exhaustive and often bewildering detail.
Transposed to its new context, the text loses its referential content and instead renders a profession, of which we might hope to expect a degree of continuity and dependability, into an image of intense flux or instability. |
