A Little Oracle
A Little Oracle, 2004
Mixed media installation with 36 min audio piece

An audio installation that includes an original adaptation of a James Joyce short story read by actor Mickey Kelly and recorded and mixed with sound effects and music in the style of a radio play. The audio plays from a x4 scale sculpture of an old transistor radio that fully functions as a radio, containing its own receiver, amplifier and speakers—the audio transmitting from an antenna just a few feet away.

The piece uses the metaphor of radio transmission to map the themes of Joyce's story onto the space of Troubles-era Northern Ireland. A Little Oracle was first presented at The Goethe Institute in Dublin as part of the 'ReJoyce' Bloomsday centenary events in June 2004.
